General Info : The Airedale Terrier is known as the "king of terriers."
They are used on large game in Africa, India and Canada, as well as the USA. The breed was chosen as one of the first to be used for police work in Germany and England. During World War I, the breed was enlisted by the British and Russian armies.
The crossing of the terrier and hound formed the stem of the Airedale, a large terrier that would also work in water.They ranged from 17-30 pounds and excelled in agility, eyesight, hearing and courage, but they lacked the nose and swimming ability of the Otterhound used in the same area
Airedale Terriers have excelled in being a hunter for foxes, badgers, weasels, otters, water rats
and ducks. The Airedale Terrier makes a good jogging partner because of their athletic physique.
